How to get there
The venue is Stromlo Forest Park and it is off Cotter Road in Canberra (ACT).
You get to Cotter Road via the Tuggeranong Parkway. Once on Cotter road, continue onto John Gorton Drive until you get to Opperman Avenue. Turn left at the traffic lights on Opperman Avenue and continue until you reach Stromlo Forest Park. There is a big round about at the entrance; you will see the car park where the main event centre is located.
More information about Stromlo Forest Park can be found here: www.stromloforestpark.com.au
It is a public MTB track and you can ride it in the lead up to the race. There are toilets and (hot) showers available.
You can camp at the Stromlo car park and event centre but please note that the gates shut at around 7pm.
Parking
There is plenty of parking right at the event centre at Stromlo Forest Park.
Camping
You will be able to camp at Stromlo Forest Park on Saturday night.
Water stations
There are three water stations with water and electrolyte drinks –
- one in the event centre near timing (there is also a tap);
- one on top of the Stromlo climb (marked, water only) and
- one at the intersection Double Dissolution/Party Line (about half-way mark, you will pass it twice, water and electrolytes).
This will also be a manned marshal and first aid contact point. We highly recommend that ever rider takes at least 2x full 750ml bottles out on track or alternatively a 2-3L hydration pack (e.g. Camelbak). You will need it.
If it’s a hot day: hydrate-hydrate-hydrate!
Our race director, Martin Wisata, has had thorough experience racing marathon distances also in hot conditions during six completed Crocodile Trophy stage races, where on some days temperatures where in the mid forties. He recommends that you start hydrating your body on Friday evening and throughout Saturday.
In any case, the key is to listen to your body during the race, keep drinking plenty of electrolytes and look after yourself. We have a manned marshal point at the half-way mark for support – refer to the water station comment above.
Race rules – Additional regulation regarding race dropout
Please familiarise yourself with our rules and race regulations – they are available on our website.
IMPORTANT: Should you decide you dropout of the race and finish early you MUST report to the timing tent, so we can record your activity! This is of utmost importance, as we need to make sure that all racers are accounted for throughout the day. Thank you for your cooperation.
Race Track
Around round the 28km mark in length. Keep in mind that based on previous years, we expect the lap times in the mid-field to be around 1.5-2 hours minimum; fastest lap times last year where around the 75 min mark.
We’re taking out Holden’s Creek near the event centre and head straight up towards the Observatory via Fenceline and Blue Gum Climb. From the top you descend via Western Wedgetail towards the back down Pork Barrell. – IMPORTANT: Pork Barrell is a more technical trail section of Stromlo, beware of the rocky and sandy corners as well as roll-overs! – From half-way down Pork Barrell you turn towards Slick Rock and Brindabellas and then turn into Deep Creek. You start climbing back via Terminal Velocity and Missing Link arriving on top of Double Dissolution. Crim Track and the steep firetrail climb are next (you reach it via riding the last 100m of Willo Link in reverse) to the top of Skyline – you will turn left onto Skyline. Half-way down Luge you turn LEFT to climb up Blackberry Climb to Slant Six and then onto Blue Tongue. Half-way up Heartbreaker you turn right (before you get to Skyline) to head towards Willo Link. We will lead you onto Party Line and from there you’re on the way back to the event centre via Home Run.
Track Signage
Please follow the Rocky Trail signage, which will be attached to official Stromlo signs and trees. We are not able to bunt the entire track as Stromlo is such a huge area, but all of the trails are very obvious and visible. Key intersections will be bunted and also signed – but be aware that we’ve had incidents where bunting was torn at Stromlo, so always look out for signs and you’ll be right.

First aid
Will be provided by Pink First Aid; one first aider will be available at the manned marshal station at the Double Dissolution/Party Line intersection and the main first aid station is located at the main AMB100 event centre.
Food & drinks
Will be provided by the Daily Espresso crew include yummy sandwiches, wraps and savoury and sweet snacks as well as coffee, tea and cold drinks. They will be located in the main event centre at the car park.
Weather forecast – Stromlo Forest Park policy
We are racing at Stromlo Forest Park, which is ruled by ACT Government regulations. Under “Catastrophic” and “Extreme” fire danger conditions the MTB park will get closed; however, based on the current forecast and previous experience, we don’t expect any closures for the event weekend. Please be aware of Rocky Trail rules applying to such instances – they are published in our event cancellation policy on our website.
A big thank you to our sponsors and supporters!
