Chasing Flow, Not Fear: How the Diamonds Shred Session is Changing Women’s MTB Gravity Racing

There is a unspoken pressure that many female riders carry to the start line, especially when they’re just starting out in racing. It isn’t just about the ticking clock; it’s the persistent voice in the back of the mind asking: Am I holding someone up? Should I pull over? Do I belong here?

Too often, this results in riding defensively, tensely, and apologetically.

At Rocky Trail Entertainment, we believe no one should have to “earn” their place on the dirt. Dirt is universal. To dismantle these barriers and foster grassroots growth, we introduced the Diamonds Shred Session, a dedicated women’s initiative designed to transform the race weekend experience from intimidating to empowering.

The Power of a Dedicated Space

During special segments of our Fox Superflow® weekends, we host a “Diamond Ride”. We meet at the rego tent on a Saturday morning and experienced racers usually lead the pack and when the crew arrives at the start line, our starters create a women-only window where they all get to drop in behind each other. The track only reopens once the final female rider clocks in a time at that finish.

The impact of this simple shift is profound. As one of our recent participants shared:

“From the moment we dropped in, the whole vibe shifted. You could feel it. Everyone rode more confidently, more committed, more themselves. No hesitation, no looking over shoulders — just pure focus and flow. It felt safe. Not just physically, but mentally.” – Ines, VIC Series

Beyond the lack of overtaking pressure, something deeper happens on these rides. Women talk. They laugh. They share the quiet doubts they usually keep hidden. There is a distinct, thriving magic that occurs when female energy takes over the trails, it transforms a competitive sport into a collective celebration.

From the Sidelines to the Start Line: Mardi’s Story

The Diamonds Shred Session isn’t just for experienced riders; it’s a launching pad for newcomers. Look no further than Mardi, our recent MTB Direct Spirit Award winner at the Mt Cotton Fox Superflow®.

For years, Mardi was the ultimate support crew, cheering from the sidelines as her sons raced. This season, she decided it was her turn. Standing at the Diamonds track briefing with Race Director Bob, the pre-race nerves were sky-high.

But she wasn’t alone. The Diamonds community and the Rocky Trail crew rallied around her, replacing fear with confidence.

“As soon as I was on course, it felt so good, so natural,” Mardi said after the race. “I got to do it all at my own pace and knew the other girls and crew were looking out for me.” – Mardi, QLD Series

Mardi proudly completed all three race stages. With a new sparkle in her eye, she has already announced plans to take on the entire Tropical QLD series, eager to pay it forward and support the next wave of riders.

Driven by Female Leadership

This initiative isn’t a box-ticking exercise; it is driven from the very top of Rocky Trail. With a strong female leadership team at the helm, National Event Manager Jo Parker and Founder-Marketing Director Juliane Wisata are fierce advocates for women in sport.

The Shred Sessions are a beautiful evolution of Rocky Trail’s history. Inspired by a “Diamonds Race” that Juliane launched years ago, Jo envisioned these sessions as an accessible, recurring sanctuary at event weekends. Today, these rides are led by experienced female racers who mentor a beautiful mix of first-timers, riding mums, and partners of racers who are ready to transition from spectators to competitors.
