Who comes out early on a Saturday morning and shovels mulch for an hour before heading out onto the trails as a race marshal? – The woman who has been my first phone call with our Diamonds events every year, Coleen ‘Polly Waffles’. The time has come to help her now.
Polly had a freak accident on her local Awaba DH track in December. Albeit at low speed the impact was horrenduous, resulting in several fractured vertebrae and paralysis from the chest down as well as other minor injuries. Our Polly is currently still recovering at the RNS Spinal Ward.
She’s fighting hard, but is in a dark place at the moment. She is a tough gravity chick and downhill racer from Newcastle NSW, she has been a dear friend and one of ‘my’ Rocky Trail crew members for years – as a race timer, as a race marshal, one of ‘my’ brightest Diamonds, always lending a helping hand together with Ricky and Alyssa their beautiful daughter.
With her permission her local club has now set up a page to donate funds and I’d like to spread the word so we can start sending help and to support a family that has a long road to recovery ahead.
How to help:
- If you can, would you donate via the page created by the Hunter Mountainbike Association – funds will go directly to the family to start preparing their home and lives for when Polly can come home.
- Together with Sarah Booth Polly owns a skills clinic business based out of Awaba MTB Park and Newcastle as well as Central Coast trails – Momentum Is Your Friend. Help spread the word too and refer people to them please.
Thank you. – Here is the link:
