Final Stage 6: Rocky Trail Racing wins Team Classification at Mongolia Bike Challenge 2016

“After a chilly night spent under a star-filled sky of epic proportions, the competitors of the 2016 Mongolia Bike Challenge by Selle SMP awoke to glorious blue canopy above and a hearty breakfast. Today’s short but challenging stage presented the riders with a 25-km individual time trial with 500 m of climbing packed into two very short but punchy climbs.

Time Trial Stage 6: XIII Century to XIII Century

We are awaiting the official individual overall results online but can already confirm that

The Rocky Trail Racing team has won the 2016 Mongolia Challenge team classification!

Today’s time trial brought another team stage win and with a combined race time of 59:16:09 they are claiming the overall team classification victory of this year’s Mongolia Bike Challenge. We are so incredibly proud and happy about this result, well done boys!

The detailed team results of today look as follows:

  • #71 Martin Wisata, 6th M1 in 1:01:09, 15th overall
  • #47 Clayton Locke, 4th in M2 in 1:03:50, 20th overall
  • #14 Mick Klemens, 5th in M2 in 1:05:45, 26th overall

After 6 Stages, the overall classification is as follows:

  • #47 Clayton Locke, tbc
  • #71 Martin Wisata, tbc
  • #14 Michael Klemens, tbc

It looks like today had all the drama that comes with stage racing for the Khan racers: The overall leader, McElveen from the US came off course at today’s time trial and would have lost the race, “were it not for a very gentlemanly display of sportsmanship. That sportsmanship came from Nicholas Pettina who, in acknowledgement of the dominance of the American over the previous five stages of the race, honorably informed the race referee that he wished for McElveen to be recognized as the overall winner of the general classification of the 2016 edition of the Mongolia Bike Challenge by Selle SMP.” What an absolute gentleman Pettina is and now doubt he will be celebrated as such at tonight’s banquet dinner at XIII Century.

Full stage 6 and overall coverage can be found on the event website – we’ll be posting podium photos and a full race report asap along with statements from our team.
