Fox Superflow® Central Coast 2022 | Results, Photos

The Fox Superflow® sealed by Stan’s kicked off for its 2022 Season with a full house at Ourimbah State Forest near Wyong on the NSW Central Coast this weekend 5+6 February. Close to 500 competitors lined up at the three timed race stages at Ourimbah MTB Park taking on this gravity enduro racing challenge. It was a jackpot for two local gravity power houses as the mighty Brad Kelly from Watanobbi and the multiple Australian Downhill National Junior Champion Ellie Smith from Jilliby took out the Elite male and female titles of the day!

Such a good crowd and fantastic to have our EWS World Champ Jack Moir there all day on the Saturday chatting with racers and filming for his YouTube Channel too. See you all on the first April weekend when Rocky Trail will host the Fox Superflow on a brand-new series venue in Cooma at Mount Gladstone MTB Park with thanks to the local Snowy Mountains MTB Club! Whoop!

Fox Superflow® draws the crowds

Organisers confirmed that Fox Superflow® race at Ourimbah drew the second-biggest rider line-up in the 10-year history of the event. The gravity enduro race that let’s its racers set the pace and have their own adventure, attracted just shy of 500 competitors for two race days to Ourimbah State Forest in moody weather conditions.

Brad Kelly wins on home track

Local gravity old-hand Brad Kelly smashed out a combined race time of 9:32.8 on the three race stages for the outright win. The45-year old from Watanobbi won ahead of Gosford’s Bradley Jolliffe (29 yrs) with a gap of 26.3 seconds.

The 19-year old Cooper Lowe from Engadine stepped it up in the Elites category, taking the third podium place just 0.2 sec behind Jolliffe. Jye Dickson from Fletcher was in fourth and Caleb Agostino from Newcastle was in fifth.

Notably, almost 10% of the racing field was on eBikes with Rocky Trail Entertainment for the first time offering an open and 40+ Masters category for male and female racers. Daniel Weir from Engadine took out the outright and Masters wins in 9:394 ahead of fellow Master racer Andrew Suprano from Tighes Hill (+10.9 sec) and 34-year old Geoff Braico from Mount Colah (+15.8 sec).
The female eBike classification saw Natacha Grieve from Green Point take the win in 11:51.8 ahead of Jodi Triffett from Vincentia and Meghan Nignan from Queenslcliff.

Ellie Smith returns to racing

Once again the junior classifications soared to new records with 193 young shredders under 17 years old at the start and another 44 in the 17 to under 19 age group over the two days of racing.

At 22-years old Ellie Smith from Jilliby has returned to racing as she said on Saturday. “I just finished my apprenticeship and now I’m ready to get back into racing, I can’t wait to hit the trails today”, she said. Every rider had the chance to lock in up to five race times on each stage. The fastest time on each counts towards the race result in the Fox Superflow® and with 10:51.4 Ellie took out the women’s Elite win and placed in the top 10% of the outright racing field – cheered on out on track by none other than Jack Moir! With a gap of 1:39.1 min Sarah Booth from Newcastle won the female Masters category and came second overall ahead of Jennifer Ward from Cronulla.

In the U19’s it was Toby Gibbons from North Epping taking the win with 10:10.8 and in the largest age group, the U17’s we saw Callum Crofts open the account for the NSW/ACT Series ranking in 10:10.5. In the Expert 19+ age group Kye Kirk from Kiama won in 10:08.1.
