Why you should race this year

The days, weeks, months, even years, at some age they run past you. That inkling of a feeling you’d like to race, you’d like to give it a go, you’d like to get back to it. You’d like to meet some new people, you’d like a new challenge, you’d like to better yourself.

You put it aside. You don’t water those flowers and let them grow.

Once you have been racing, you realise all you had to do was get up and go. We promise you will figure it out. Many people before you have, many people after you will.

We have a core of racers that are over 40. Almost universally they love it, but wish they had started earlier.

At the end of this year, you could have gone to 5 new towns. You could have made 10 new friends. You could have gained some muscle, lost some fat. Or, you could think, next year I’ll give it a go.

Racing isn’t that hard. Its more a social event that a race really for most people. Its feet on the pedals, push one down, then the other, keep breathing, keep focussed. Pedal, pedal, breathe, breathe. Its so simple, but we love it. You will too.

We want to take e-bike racing to the next level! We welcome Shimano STEPS now board as a partner, we can take things to a new level!

If you have ridden an e-bike - you know that it poses its own set of challenges, and when you are racing - everyone has the same advantages! From getting power down out of corners, learning to deal with mid-corner weight or not flying off the back on a tech climb, e-bikes are so fun to race!

This year the e-bike series will be at every round of GP and Superflow - with the possibility of e-bike only rounds at suitable tracks in the future!

The rains are here! If you check your inbox (and subscribe to our newsletter) we just posted a quick update on the tracks. Here's the summary
1. Shimano MTB GP - Round 1 Orange 15 February- all good
2. The Willo Marathon 1 March - too early to call
3. Jetblack 24 Hour - Rydal near Lithgow 28+29 March - all good

Our aim is to stage the race in Wingello as planned to give a much needed boost to local shops, restaurants and accommodation providers.

However, if it’s not ready in time or unsafe we will have an alternative venue ready for you close-by.

It’s too early to make a call but we will keep you informed as soon as we have any updates, hopefully in the next two weeks. We have people on the ground keeping us updated!

Racing is rarely about racing.

If we have 200 people at the track, 5 people care about the pointy end, the rest of us are there to race ourselves, be part of a challenge and mostly be part of a community.

Modern life is what it is. Sussan from accounts doesn’t understand why you want to sweat up a hill and smile all the way down. You probably barely understand why you are so obsessed, reading or thinking about bikes when you aren’t riding.

But we are who we are. We are bonded by the sound of rubber on dirt. The smile when you tyres slide into a corner. The feeling of cresting a hill, mashing down gears and stepping on the pedals into a descent. Every one of us knows the feeling of tacky dirt, suspension railing you to the ground and joy going direct to your brain when you let go of the brakes.

We live for the days in the hills. The 5 days a week we spend behind desks is just the necessary part between riding bikes. We all wait for the summer days when we can get an extra ride in at night.

If you have the same mindset as us, join us this year. If you love XC, the GP races will have you talking tactics until you are blue in the face. If you race enduro, you will stand on corners with your friends examining the high line vs the low. Swearing that one line will help you hold speed out of the next corner.

In 2020, the community is our goal. More high fives. More racing as teams. More fun tracks. More getting racers involved with racers. We hope to see you on the track!

There are very few things like a 24 hour event. Even if XC is not your passion, getting group together and committing to it may be the best bonding experience of 2020.

Its almost hard to explain the feeling when your body goes ‘ok, I guess we’re doing this, fine, keep going’. You get so tired you legs just go almost numb, and you enter a new zone of riding that is very very different.

The quiet of riding in the middle of the night, just your tires and occasional wildlife piercing the silence. The feeling of coming into the pits and seeing riders going through the same thing as you. Riding from dark into dawn is a very magical experience, seeing the world light up around you.

Depending on how big your team is, you can make the race a huge challenge or perfectly doable for a weekend warrior.

If you have some brave friends, tag them, a 24 hour race is something you talk about for years!
