Media Release: Rocky Trail Entertainment coming to Toowoomba in 2022

Rocky Trail Entertainment will host two mountain bike events in Toowoomba for the first time this Winter. As one of the major private race organisers in Australia, Rocky Trail will host two of their unique event formats in town. The action will kick off with the Rocky Trail Academy Schools Competition tomorrow, Friday 3 June and continue with the Fox Superflow® gravity enduro race on the weekend of 18 and 19 June. The events are endorsed by the local Towoomba MTB Club and over 400 competitors and an estimated 200-250 supporters are expected to attend.

Rocky Trail’s National Event Manager Jo Parker says that the events will challenge the competitors and most of them will be from out of town.

“We have a line-up of 45 events this year all along the East Coast of Australia and we just kicked off the Queensland Series events last month. Toowoomba will be on our race calendar for the first time this year. For anyone serious about mountains, trails and gravity racing, we believe Toowoomba is a must-do experience and we also expect riders to fly in from interstate.”

She explained that over 150 juniors from 25 schools as well as independent students were taking part in the Rocky Trail Academy event and that 250-300 competitors were expected to race in the 2-day Fox Superflow® Series event.

Rocky Trail Academy: Junior development program on ‘rocky trails’

In the Rocky Trail Academy event, entry is open to all secondary school students and juniors may sign up as part of a school group or also independently if a parent or guardian can be present with them on the day. The Rocky Trail Academy was all about fostering the grass-roots development of the cycling sport, Parker said and part of the company’s junior rider development program.

Geared towards secondary school students these events are held on a Friday and not only engage youth in healthy social and active recreation but brings a heightened appreciation of nature, the environment, self-reliance , self-learning and independence, all as part of riding a bike in the outdoors. By extension, this program also engages and educates teachers and parents. It is all about encouraging students of all abilities to come and race with their mates in a safe and social environment.

The schools competition will be held at Mount Peel Mountain Bike Trails and the organiser said, that the network was ideal for the young riders, “The students will have an exciting racing experience and will test their riding ability across three skill areas. The Mount Peel Trails are ideal for our challenges across endurance, speed and technical skills.”

Fox Superflow® gravity enduro action in Toowoomba

The ‘super’-social race format of the Fox Superflow® will guarantee adrenaline highs at Toowoomba later this month. The competitors will ride to the starts un-timed and then complete three race tracks fir an awesome day out for many categories – from elite to amateur racers to families with juniors, couples and groups of friends riding together. The event is part of a QLD and overall East Coast Australian race series.

Rocky Trail Fox Superflow®

Rocky Trail’s Race Director Bob Morris says that the Fox Superflow® success was all about friendly enduro racing without a tight schedule. He added that 17 Fox Superflow® races had been locked in all along the East Coast of Australia for 2022 and that a new Superflow® PRO Stage format was going to be featured at Toowoomba, which was able to offer an additional fourth, more challenging, downhill race track for pro riders.

“Our vision is to create a pathway for our riders, which may ultimately give them the stepping stones to be racing in the EWS, the Enduro World Series”, Morris said.

The organisers concluded that the region had huge potential and much to gain from mountain biking events and tourism being in the South East QLD area, especially having some of the most popular trails with great growth potential so close to town.
