The JetBlack 12 Hour Mountain Bike event is the largest endurance race of its kind in NSW and will be held at the brand-new mountain bike trail network at the James Estate Winery in Baerami on Bylong Valley Way on 14 July 2014.
The winery is not only well-know for its delicious wines, but also for the beautiful surrounds. Visitors to the Cellar Door at Baerami can not only explore the property on a ridge walk, which takes them to a magnificent lookout high above the vineyards, but they can also ride their mountain bikes on custom-built trails. James Estate was recently awarded with the title “Star Cellar Door and Best Additional Experience” by the Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine, a credit to their fantastic offer.
After the inaugural mountain bike race hosted by Rocky Trail Entertainment at James Estate Winery in Baerami with the SHIMANO MTB Grand Prix in April 2013, the cycling events organiser will bring one of their flagship events to the Upper Hunter Valley with the JetBlack 12 Hour race. The brand new mountain bike trails at the James Estate winery are already legendary – make it a weekend! Explore the beautiful Upper Hunter Valley, racing your bike on the Saturday and tasting those delicious wines and local foods on the Sunday. Everything a mountain biker’s (and supporter’s) heart could wish for.
“We moved the venue for this iconic event to James Estate after the overwhelmingly positive feedback from our race there last year. It is such a great race venue and very family-friendly, which is why we moved it into the school holidays. Also, the race start will be at 11am to allow for a more relaxed start into the day and to give riders who arrive on race day those few extra hours”, said event manager Juliane Wisata from Rocky Trail. Due to the late race finish at 11pm, the race organisers will hold a short flower ceremony for the main race categories Saturday night and all race participants and visitors will have a big get-together on the Sunday for the official prize ceremony at 9am and plenty of time to explore the beautiful James Estate Winery and get a taste of their delicious range of wines and to visit the surrounding Hunter Valley region.
The race track will feature about 10km through the beautiful James Estate winery with spectacular views of the Upper Hunter Valley and participants can race solo or in relay-style teams.
Every race participant will receive a complimentary a bottle of James Estate Wine and all visitors and spectators will be treated to culinary treats from the region. Free kids races and activities will keep young visitors busy and entry for spectators is free. The James Estate cellar door will be open all day. Camp on-site or pick from the many comfy accommodation options in the region.
