Martin Wisata (born 1977 in Austria), Cycling

Mountain biking, in the most remote and beautiful regions in the World. That’s what it’s all about for Martin and his wife – in their private and business lives. Originally from Austria they have been living in Australia for 15 years and founded their business Rocky Trail Entertainment. The two passionate mountain bikers organise more than 20 events along the Australian East Coast a year, ranging from cross-country to endurance as well as enduro and downhill. The vision behind Rocky Trail: unite passionate cyclists from all over Australia to have fun off-road together with their motto: “Let us tempt you to race the mountain bike events that rock!”

Success in sport:

  • 9 Crocodile Trophy finishes in Australia
  • 2018: top 10 overall and third place in the age group at the Croc
  • 2016: Mongolia Bike Challenge winner overall in team classification
  • Martin defines his success not only through podium placings, but for him personal achievement and a strong race can also the result of finding his group, dominating within the group and being able to attack in the sprint to the finish.

owayo: Martin, tell us how you got into cycling

MW: When we moved to Australia in 2003 we explored Sydney and surrounds on our bikes. That’s how we met friends who told us about a 24-hour MTB race. We entered with a team and that’s how we caught the racing bug. Since 2008 my wife and I have been organising MTB events on the East Coast of Australia and as entrepreneurs the cycling sport has defined our business and private lives, because we both really enjoy it all.

owayo: What are you goals? In sports and in life?

MW: I’m 40 now and in the best physical shape of my life. I want to keep it that way and I think through doing endurance sports I can achieve that. My goal in life is to have fun – that probably sounds a bit simple, but if you enjoy your job, your family and what you do in your spare time, then everything runs smoother.

owayo: What have been your biggest personal successes?

MW: In the past two years I was on the Crocodile Trophy podium a few times. In sport those podium positions have definitely been my personal highlights. Especially if you stand up there alongside someone who raced in yellow at the Tour de France before.

owayo: Where do you love riding your bike the most?

MW: It’s hard to say, I love riding my bike anywhere, but I have to admit that Mongolia has been incredibly beautiful.

owayo: What do you like doing when you’re not on your bike?

MW: Relax, eat well and play Lego with my son.

owyao: What does owayo mean to you?

MW: It is an amazing brand and a great partner. There are many clothing producers, but there are very few that look after their customers that well.

owayo: What are you favourite owayo products and why?

MW: I love that owayo offers such a wide range of products, because I have such a great choice in any kind of weather. I can put together an outfit that will keep me warm or cool. I don’t really have any favourite product – everything works just right.
