Race preparation is everything

A lot of race preparation goes into getting ready for a monster race like the Crocodile Trophy. Our team manager Martin Wisata has been testing products and gear and thanks to our supporters was able to pick from the best! Today, second-time Crocodile Trophy and 2013 age category winner, Peter Selkrig and Martin caught up with the NBN News crew to share a few insights.

First of all, ya need to look good. Thanks to Spin Cycle Clothing that's been taken care of - not only are the new kits made of the most light-weight and durable material, the new design will stand out in the Croco peloton as well!

Those blue Shimano shoes - Martin won't use any others! Plus this year he's "accessorizing" them with the 25-year Anniversary Edition cleats. Also in blue. Shimano drivetrain and breaks complete the set up and Peter will race with the new Shimano Di2 electronic shifting system.

In addition to this, the 2-Component Power Grip Nose Part optimizes the fit and prevents the glasses from slipping. The high-tech lenses with power contrast, due to their colour, enhance contrast and true-colour vision and are unbeatable in any light situation. The crystalline Radical shape is not only stylish but functional too, creating an overall edgy look. A laser engraving refines the unbreakable lens.

Race preparation is everything - Martin used Today's Plan to get Croc-ready for his training regime. "I also tried to eat healthy food - last year I tried to loose weight fast, but for this year my strategy was to do more strength training to increase my power output on the flat and technical stages." Needless to say, he's hooked on Il Pastaio Pasta - "Reminds me of my study days in Italy, it's really good, authentic Italian pasta!"

Peter Selkrig has been on the racing circuit all over the world this year - the Cape Epic kicked it off in the beginning of 2015 and then a training accident left him with a broken pelvis mid-year. Thankfully, the driver of the rogue car didn't get away with it. Since his recovery he's been even more determined, luckily his AAA Downunder business runs so smoothly, even while he is racing on the other side of the earth: Mongolia Challenge in August, then Road World Champs in Denmark, 24 Hour Solo World Champs in the US just a week ago and this Saturday back for a second Croc. "I love the camaraderie - you meet so many like-minded people from all over the world. That's what keeps me coming back."
