Rider Briefing Thredbo 2015 – Fox Rollercoaster and RedAss Downhill

We are looking forward to bringing you a whole weekend of gravity racing in Thredbo – the action-packed events include a Fox Rollercoaster Enduro State Round, powered by BH Bikes on Saturday and a RedAss NSW/ACT Downhill State Round on Sunday.

Please note that Rocky Trail have reserved the entire Thredbo MTB trail network for these events; only registered racers will be allowed to board the chair lift – make sure to pick up your race plate as proof! You will be able to practice on the Friday; both trails will be marked – the Thredbo Sports Shop will get a rider list from us and registered racers will get a discounted $30 lift ticket for the Friday. The Flow Trail will be open for riding on the Sunday; please follow marshall instructions, if required during the downhill practice and race runs. – Fox Rollercoaster racers who wish to ride on the Sunday, can request a 2-day lift pass when they pick up their race number plates at the Rocky Trail registration office (located in the ticketing office near the sports shop) for an extra $30 (Saturday’s lift pass is included in the entry).

Weather forecast

First things first – it’s glorious at Thredbo this weekend! It is crisp in the morning and at the top station, we’re not going to lie, but the sun is out, which takes the edge right off. Do bring warm riding gear and wear gloves to keep you warm. We also put together a recommended start order for the Fox Rollercoaster and will call up categories to board the lift in waves, to minimise waiting times at the start once racing starts on Saturday. Start sequences for the downhill event is as usual – check out the tables below.

Downhill race rules

Please familiarise yourself with the official race rules, which are available on the event website. All downhillers require a full-face helmet to race. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to chat to our crew: Race Director Martin Wisata, Event Director Juliane Wisata and the Chief Commissaire Tim Butler.
Important for seeding: Juliane will pre-assign race plates, however, we can still adjust the seeding and re-print them on the day. Please talk to her on Saturday, we can’t make any changes once the timing crew has set up the system on Sunday morning.
Important for the race runs: Elite and U19 categories will get a seeding run from 11.30am on Sunday; after that all remaining categories will do their race runs. We will publish a start list on Sunday morning; please make a note of your assigned start time and be at the start at least 10-15 min prior to it. Our Chief Commissaire will oversee the start procedures; if you have any questions or concerns, please do talk to  him at the start or to the Race Director at the finish.

Rollercoaster race rules

At Thredbo we’ll be using their Flow Trail and  the combined times of two race runs will count. Transport to the start is via the Thredbo chairlift. Thredbo does not require full-face helmets on their Flow Trail.
