Rocky Trail Academy and racing weekend set to break records at Sugar Bag

Get ready for an action-packed four-day mountain biking extravaganza on the ‘sweet’ Sugar Bag Trails of the Sunshine Coast! Promoted as a “Rocky Trail Explorer Series,” Australia’s leading private mountain bike event promoter is set to make a thrilling return to Sugar Bag MTB Park.


The event lineup kicks off with a bang as the record-breaking Rocky Trail Academy Schools Competition takes center stage, attracting a whopping 600 students ready to conquer three timed race stages. They will put their endurance, technical and speed skills to the test.

The excitement continues with the popular “Rocky Trail Pump & Flow,” showcasing the brand-new pump track facility at Sugar Bag. On the Sunday, the Sunshine Coast will host epic relaunch of the Shimano Grand Prix lap race, which is part of Rocky Trail’s flagship cross-country endurance series.

Rocky Trail Academy Schools MTB Comp

The “more awesome” school day out on ‘rocky trails’. On Thursday and Friday, Rocky Trail Entertainment in conjunction with CORCA MTB Club presents the Sunshine Coast Schools Mountain Bike Comp at Sugarbag Mountain Bike Park, Caloundra. Geared towards secondary school students this race not only engages youth in healthy social and active recreation but brings a heightened appreciation of nature, the environment, self-reliance , self-learning and independence, all as part of riding a bike in the outdoors. By extension, this program also engages and educates teachers and parents.

Pump & Flow for everyone

Join us all throughout Saturday for some fast paced pump track action at the Sugar Bag Pump Track. After qualification runs for young and those young at heart, there will be junior heats and finals and 4 heats to determine the outright Male and Female winners. Race participants across a wide range of age groups can clock in multiple race times and the fastest group of racers in male and female classifications will progress through the final Pump & Flow Shootout Heat.

Shimano Grand Prix endurance racing

Rocky Trail sets the number of laps. You pick your Race. On the Sunday the Shimano GP at will offer three distance challenges on a circuit lap: approximately 75km (Hero), 50kms (Adventure) and 25kms (Challenge). The exact number of laps is always confirmed in the week leading up to the race.

The races have Age Group Categories for solos in all the distance challenges and a pairs team offering in the longest, the Hero race. There will classification awards that will reward the outright male/female winners of each distance with their custom colour coded “Classification Plate”. The races also offer eBike categories in the Adventure distance.

With anticipation building and riders gearing up for the Sunshine Coast event weekend by Rocky Trail Entertainment, the stage is set for an adrenaline-fueled mountain bike racing action. Riders and spectators alike are in for a weekend filled with thrills, camaraderie, and the breathtaking beauty of the Sunshine Coast.
