Rocky Trail features in Green Destination Awards Submission: Central Coast wins at ITB in Berlin

Congratulations to the Central Coast Council on their wins of the Global Eco-Tourism Award!

The Central Coast, the home turf here at Rocky Trail for the past 12 years, has just secured the top prize in the prestigious Green Destinations Story Awards at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show! This prestigious award recognises the region’s unwavering commitment to building a thriving and sustainable tourism industry. As a proud ECO Advocate through the Central Coast Council’s program, Rocky Trail’s Juliane Wisata was invited to play a representative role in the achievement.

A Winning Story

The Central Coast’s award-winning story, titled “A Destination of Eco Advocates with Whales, Alpacas and Wheels,” highlighted the region’s collaborative approach to sustainable tourism. This collaborative spirit involves the Council, local businesses like Rocky Trail, and of course, the passionate community.

The story showcased the “Eco Advocates” program and its impact on fostering a culture of responsible tourism across the Central Coast. This win serves as a testament to the collective effort and dedication of everyone involved.

Since 2021, Rocky Trail has been actively involved in the Central Coast Council’s ECO Advocate program. This initiative empowers local businesses to embrace sustainable practices and minimise their environmental impact.

Rocky Trail Champions Eco-Tourism

Through the Central Coast-led program, we’ve successfully secured Eco Tourism Australia Certification for all Rocky Trail events held across the Australian East Coast. This ensures ALL our events promote responsible tourism and environmental awareness.

“From a passion for cycling and the appreciation of nature, Rocky Trail exists to increase trail-based activities, across Australia, by enabling and initiating the creation of sustainable whole-of-community benefits.”

Vision by our Rocky Trail Entertainment Founders, Juliane & Martin Wisata

The ECO Certification logo means that with Rocky Trail our riders, visitors and business stakeholders are guaranteed to be part of a genuine and authentic trail-based nature experience that looks after the environment. The ECO Certification program assures you that certified products are backed by a commitment to sustainable practices and provide high quality nature-based tourism experiences.

Celebrating Success: A Global Stage

Juliane Wisata, Founder of Rocky Trail, was one of two representatives chosen from the Central Coast’s Eco Advocate and business community. She had the incredible opportunity to feature in the video submission played at the ITB Berlin conference, further amplifying the region’s story on a global stage.

“As one of Rocky Trail’s founder this award reinforces our commitment to be not just an event organiser, but also an advocate for sustainable tourism practices. We believe a company’s success is intrinsically linked to the well-being of the environment it operates in.”

She added that the collaboration with the Central Coast Council and other local businesses was truly inspiring, solidifying their role as responsible residents and business owners.

“Through Eco Tourism Australia certification, we’re not only minimising our environmental impact on the Central Coast, but also setting a high standard for sustainable event operations across all our venues in Australia”, she explained.

Ultimately, it was about connecting people with nature in a responsible way.

“As a mountain biker myself, I understand the profound connection we forge with the natural world. Providing that opportunity for others, while protecting the landscapes we cherish, is the driving force behind Rocky Trail”, Juliane stated and that she was committed to continue spreading the word about the Eco Tourism Australia values as one of their advocates.

The Road Ahead

Rocky Trail believe that responsible tourism practices can go hand-in-hand with creating unforgettable experiences for our riders and guests. We’re constantly exploring ways to minimise our environmental footprint while showcasing the breathtaking beauty of the Australian landscapes as part of our trail-based experiences.
