Rocky Trail – our roots in the gravity racing scene – meet our godfather

Now, some of you might not know it, but Rocky Trail’s very first event was actually a “gravity” event! From 2008 we were comissioned to run the NSW State Series for Dual Slalom and Four Cross by the president of NSW MTB and Rocky Trail’s godfather, Steve Humphreys.

Steve is an icon in the Western Sydney world of mountain biking – digging, scheming, planning, campaigning… how can we get more bums on seats and more tyres out on the rocky trails?

We would like to pay tribute to Steve and his wife Julia, they have been tremendous supporters of Rocky Trail from day one – helping out at events, not only on race day, but building and digging and getting us in touch with land owners and managers. We’re really thankful for their support and friendship!

Here’s a look back at the VERY FIRST event – eight riders in total at the start line at the Dual Slalom race at Sydney Olympic Park, including Juliane and Martin, as well as Steve. So who were the other five racers? Well, they went on to become some of our most loyal and successful #rockytrailracers!

A huge cheer for Matt Walker, Andrew Frassetto, Ben Leslie, Thamba Pat and Matt Farrell! And yes, we did race on the car park!

Here’s the very first set of Rocky Trail results from 26 April 2008:
