The next edition of the official “Rocky Trail Kids MTB Fair” will happen on Saturday, 26 October 2019 as part of the Shimano MTB Grand Prix at Awaba MTB Park from 10am-12pm
About the Shimano MTB GP
Be a #rockytrailracer and join fellow mountain bikers for a ‘seriously fun’ racing experience! You’ll be in for classic cross-country lap racing at its best – race solo or in teams for four or seven hours in the battle for the Championship titles of the “Rocky Trail World”!
The local Hunter MTB Association has done a lot of trail maintenance and building recently and they are keen to showcase their hard work – and race too!
Bring the fambam! We will host our popular Kids MTB Fair together with the local coaches from Momentum Is Your Friend – so many trails and riding options for the little shredders at Awaba, they will squeal in delight (afternoon naps and early bedtime guaranteed!). More info to follow and online registration for the main event open now!
It is FREE and part of the Shimano MTB GP Championship action!
The online Kids rego is now closed; please come and see us on the day, we still have spots. Thanks!
We have arranged for MTB coaches from the local skills clinics business Momentum Is Your Friend (MIYF) and they can only take a certain amount of kids. We allowed for about 50 kids.
Please also note that each child MUST be accompanied by an adult or guardian throughout the whole time. Thank you for your understanding. Scroll down for more details.
Sign-on from 9:30am on Saturday, 26 October 2019; activities until 12pm.
What this is all about
We have a little toddler ourselves and want to offer an event environment where the little ones are welcome! We always have colouring-in pages and crayons at our sign-on desk to keep them busy and run fun kids races at most of our events and the Rocky Trail Kids MTB Fair will become part of the “Rocky Trail Academy” division.
The Rocky Trail Academy division will be launched with a schools event for Secondary School Students later this year with plans to roll out the program across the State and Country in future years? Read all about it here.
The Rocky Trail Kids MTB Fair is held with smaller #rockytrailshredders in mind. The ideal age range for kids to participate in it would be from six years and older – we reckon juniors up to 10 or 12 will still enjoy the activities we have planned. We have skilled MTB coaches who will cater for the age and skills groups on the day. The younger kiddies can of course join in too – everyone is welcome and will get a “starter gift” and “finisher certificate”.
Here are some photos from the Rocky Trail MTB Kids Fair for little #rockytrailshredders in Canberra in April:

The idea – Momentum Is Your Friend Stations
We have the great support of our friends from Momentum Is Your Friend (MIYF), the Newcastle area-based skills training company, specialised in mountain biking.
The crew from MITF will help us operate a number of “skills stations” – little and very achieveable challenges for the kids. Every achievement gets them a Merrit Stamp on their number plates, which they can then bring back to the event centre for their “finisher certificate”.
Location: Awaba MTB Park
- Sign-on: Rocky Trail info point and sign on desk in event centre at Awaba MTB Park
- Activity stations: Awaba MTB Park Junior Development Trails near lower car park, close to the event centre (incl. toddler crit track at main car park)
The event is FREE and we will donate part of the Shimano MTB GP event profits to our designated charity, Pedal 4 Pierce, which is based in Canberra. Find out more about Pedal 4 Pierce below – it would be lovely, if you could help us support their cause with a gold coin donation on the day. We’ll have buckets at the sign on for the kids.
About Pedal 4 Pierce
The Canberra-based charity was founded in 2009 by his then 10-year old son Chris Jefferys who wanted to “help people who research things“. Him and his Dad Nigel started to assemble a crew and they are putting on various fundraising events in Canberra and have been racing with Rocky Trail over the years.
With the Pedal4Pierce crew racing and also helping out at events, Rocky Trail has been donating to help fund research about treatment and to find a cure for Congenital Muscular Dystrophy and to support kids who live with it and their families. We have been supporting them since 2010 and the P4P crew has become part of our core crew.
Do you want to support Chris and his Pedal4Pierce crew? You can:
- Race with Rocky Trail as we donate after each event
- Donate directly online
- Donate cash into the P4P bucket at Rocky Trail events, like the upcoming Shimano MTB GP and the Rocky Trail Kids MTB Fair
