In 2019, Rocky Trail will host three events in Canberra at Stromlo Forest Park – under the banner of the “Rocky Trail ACT Event Series” the three races are supported by Events ACT. – An overview can be found here.
The first race will be the Shimano MTB Grand Prix on 13 April 2019 – it is a 4 and 7 hour cross-country lap event and for the first time we are putting on the “Rocky Trail Kids MTB Fair“! It’s the beginning of school holidays, so we want to encourage our #rockytrailracers to bring their ‘fambam’ along to the race and for the interstate racers to make it a MTB weekend getaway – lots of fun things to do in Canberra on the Sunday!
Below is the registration form or CLICK HERE to open it in your browser – and scroll down to find out all the details about the kids event!
The online form is now closed; please come to the Shimano MTB GP sign-on desk at Stromlo Forest Park in the Rocky Trail event centre near the new cafe/bikeshop area near the pump track and we can register the kids on the day. Sign-on from 9:30-10am on Saturday, 13 April; activities until 1pm.
Fun for the whole family!
At Rocky Trail events we love it when the little shredders join in the fun – we offer free kids races at most of our cross-country events! All of our races include junior categories and we have competitors as young as 8 years at our start lines – a lot ride in junior teams at the Shimano MTB GP events and the Fox Superflow, sealed by Stan’s races have become very popular. The event format of those events let parents and kids spend all day together on the trails and clock in their lap times, getting neutral rides and breaks in between the timed sections.
First Rocky Trail Kids MTB Fair
We have a little toddler ourselves and want to offer an event environment where the little ones are welcome! We have colouring-in and for the Shimano MTB GP at Stromlo Forest Park will put on a fun side-event for the kids!
The ideal age range for kids to participate would be from six years and older – we reckon juniors up to 10 or 12 will enjoy the activities we have planned. The younger kiddies can of course join in too – everyone is welcome and will get a “starter gift” and “finisher certificate”.
The idea – Dynamic Motivation Stations
We have the great support of our friends from Dynamic Motivation, the Canberra-based skills training company, specialised in mountain biking – did you know that they have more than 120 kids in their programmes?
The crew from Dynamic Motivation will help us operate a number of “skills stations” – little and very achieveable challenges for the kids. Every achievement gets them a sticker on their number plates, which they can then bring back to the event centre for their “finisher certificate”.
- Sign-on: Shimano MTB Grand Prix event centre at Stromlo Forest Park
- Activity stations: Stromlo Forest Park, close to the event centre (incl. Skills Park “Playground” and kids pump track near 4X bridge)
The event is FREE and we will donate part of the Shimano MTB GP event profits to our designated charity, Pedal 4 Pierce, which is based in Canberra. Find out more about Pedal 4 Pierce below – it would be lovely, if you could help us support their cause with a gold coin donation on the day. We’ll have buckets at the sign on for the kids.
About Pedal 4 Pierce
The Canberra-based charity was founded in 2009 by his then 10-year old son Chris Jefferys who wanted to “help people who research things“. Him and his Dad Nigel started to assemble a crew and they are putting on various fundraising events in Canberra and have been racing with Rocky Trail over the years.
With the Pedal4Pierce crew racing and also helping out at events, Rocky Trail has been donating to help fund research about treatment and to find a cure for Congenital Muscular Dystrophy and to support kids who live with it and their families. We have been supporting them since 2010 and the P4P crew has become part of our core crew.
Do you want to support Chris and his Pedal4Pierce crew? You can:
- Race with Rocky Trail as we donate after each event
- Donate directly online
- Donate cash into the P4P bucket at Rocky Trail events, like the upcoming Shimano MTB GP and the Rocky Trail Kids MTB Fair
