Shimano Glenrock GP May 2021 | Race Report, Photos

Awesome racing at Glenrock on the weekend with many local and visiting racers using this unique chance to race at this amazing National Parks venue!

A huge thank you to Kate from NSW National Parks and Mick from the Glenrock Trail Alliance for joining us at the race start. These two organisations have been trailblazers in the industry showcasing how National Parks and community groups can work together to make such beautiful landscapes and areas more accessible for the public to enjoy.

Trent Pons from Campbelltown and Maddy Scott from Goulburn are the 4 hour solo outright winners with the Helensburgh Hombres Male Pair taking out the line honours.

In the six hour we had an fantastic line-up of junior pairs teams with a full Central Coast podium in the male teams and the four Hunter MTB Schools girls adding to their series points scores.

The ‘big kids’ out on track had a blast – local racer Ben Flaherty took out the men’s solo win with 17 laps in the 6 hour ahead of Canberra racer Matt Georgeson and Garry James who both finished with 15 laps.

In the women’s it was Gwynn McLeod from Canberra who won with 12 laps ahead of Northern Beaches racer Claudia Fiess.

The line-honours was a tough battle and one of the most gripping finishes in the recent history of the Shimano MTB GP with the “Ado & Gordo Show” literally delivering a show. Adrian Azzopardi finished only 1 minute ahead of the Hunter Schools MTB Peaberrys Coffee Ghostgum Bikes team with locals Rodney Rae and Geoff Dunkin. Both teams completed 18 laps and it had been a neck-on-neck battle all day. Watch Ado’s team mate, the former 24 Hour solo World Champion Craig Gordon from Wollongong, as he awaits him at the finish line – scroll down for the video link (LIVE recording via RT Facebook).

The next Shimano MTB GP will be a double-header weekend in Port Macquarie & Kempsey – start planning your Winter getaway to the beautiful NSW North Coast! Both venues are only 35-40 minutes drive apart and in between is one of the most beautiful stretches of coast line to enjoy! And did you know it’s the first weekend of the NSW School Holidays? – We prepared your Visitor and Destination Guides for #rockytrailracers with all the details!
