Shimano MTB GP | NSW/ACT Awaba 2022 | Results, Photos

Congrats to everyone that rode the Shimano Awaba GP over the weekend! There was some legs burning out there, but lots of smiles when people crossed the line!

We had some RT crew out on the course, and its honestly so inspiring to see riders out there, not necessarily the fastest, but easily the hardest working. We had a tight top end of the field at the start too with 4-time Olympian Dan McConnell taking the outright solo win with 9 laps completed in 4:20:50.

“Great to be back racing on a hard and fun day out at the @rockytrailentertainment [Shimano MTB] GP 4hr at Awaba. Really happy how my form is at the moment and excited to keep stepping it up towards my big goal coming up.”

Sydney’s Jon Odams came in second with a gap of 3:27 min and congratulated his fellow podium getters – Brendan Johnston in third (4:30:07) with Jason English in fourth with one lap down and Trent Pons in fifth.

The sharpest field I have ever seen @rockytrailentertainment @shimanoaustralia GP. The course was tough but fun, the riding was fast and demanding on the body.

Sensationally, the KOM title went to junior racer Cameron Winfield in 1:04,8 – on the last lap outclimbing even Dan McConnell, who clocked in 1:09,3. Former track racer Sophie Knox showed her strength for the QOM title in 1:35,9 min.

In the women’s, Em Viotto took the outright solo win with 7 laps in 4:09:29 and fastest lap time with Thomas Ludlam the fastest junior male and Caitlyn Brazier the fastest young female racer.

The next cross-country event will be the Shimano MTB GP 4-hour double-header on 2+3 July in Jolly Nose/Port Macquarie and Kempsey. Right at the start of school holidays, the perfect opportunity for a long weekend away – come early, stay longer, we say!
