The Pedal 4 Pierce Charity Story

Pedal 4 Pierce is Rocky Trail’s charity of choice. We met Christopher Jefferys and his family in 2009 and this is the story of how the determination of a bright young kid turned his vision into a charity that ‘rides for kids who can’t” and raises funds to help children and their families affected by Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. We proudly support Chris, because it has changed our lives forever too. This is the story about Pedal 4 Pierce, which over the last decade has become passionately and affectionately intertwined with Rocky Trail Entertainment.

At the age of 10 Chris wanted to ‘Help people who research things’.

So in December 2009 Chris together with his parents Rebecca and Nigel a.k.a. known as “DJ Mista Nige” had his first Pedal 4 Pierce ride at Stromlo Forest Park. Over 70 riders and nearly 200 friends, families and helpers joined Christopher for his ride. Christopher helped raise $10,300 for research to help find a treatment and cure for Congenital Muscular Dystrophy.

2010 saw Pedal 4 Pierce gain the support it deserves with thanks to Rocky Trail Entertainment.

Team Pedal 4 Pierce helps raise awareness of Muscular Dystrophy. Christopher’s ride raises funds to help find a treatment and cure as well as helping young children in Australia through the great work of Capital Region Muscular Dystrophy.

Ten years on, Chris has become a carpentry apprentice and a very active Rocky Trail racer too. With is Pedal 4 Pierce team mates he is a regular starter at Rocky Trail events around New South Wales and the ACT. They ride in the 7 and 4 Hour Shimano MTB Grand Prix series with a mixture of teams and solo riders and they also have teams at the 12 and 24 Hour events. You will always see Pedal 4 Pierce around the trails in Canberra and we’re a regular starter at many social rides and races.

Pedal 4 Pierce is all about riding great trails, friendship and of course FUN whilst raising awareness of Muscular Dystrophy and helping those in the region with the many forms of Muscular Dystrophy.

In 2015 Chris recieved a “Highly Commended Award” at the Volunteer of the year awards in the ACT for his continued work to help those with Muscular Dystrophy.

What does Pedal 4 Pierce fund?

Here are some examples:

  • Another project is to fund the “junior power chair soccer team” to go to national championship events, participants are as young as 10 years old.
  • Pedal 4 Pierce has been funding cough assist machines for children with muscular dystrophy
