After being postponed in June due to inclement weather, the much-anticipated Willo Marathon is set to return to the stunning Nowra region this Sunday, 4 August 2024. This iconic mountain biking event will once again showcase the world-class trails of the Coondoo, Superbowl, and Butterfly trail networks.
Rocky Trail Entertainment is proud to be endorsed by the local mountain biking community to bring this event to life, racing on the home trails of the South Coast United Mountainbikers Club. As a token of our appreciation for the use of these incredible trails, we will be making a significant contribution to the club to support ongoing trail maintenance and development.
The Willo Marathon is a celebration of the sport, honouring the memory of the late Australian National XCM Champion, James Williamson. The event features multiple race distances to cater to riders of all abilities, from the challenging 80km Epic to the more leisurely 40km Challenge. There’s also a 60km Adventure option for those seeking a balance of challenge and enjoyment.
The Australian National Marathon Champion from 2022, Em Viotto from Canberra will be at the start of the longest distance. Also in the men’s we expect some endurance big hitters to be at the start line in Nowra including the reigning National Champion, Jon Odams from Sydney.
For the younger generation, a 12km Junior race will be held, providing a fantastic opportunity for young riders to experience the thrill of competition. And for those who simply enjoy the atmosphere, spectators are warmly welcomed to cheer on the riders and soak up the vibrant energy of the event.
We encourage the local community to come out and support this fantastic event. Whether you’re a seasoned mountain biker or simply a nature enthusiast, there’s something for everyone at the Willo Marathon.
